  3. Free accessory

Buy an espresso machine from Jens and the accessory comes free.

Jens sells espresso machines, air fryers and coffee. Every machine has its matching accessory, but only that machine: the milk jug goes with the espresso machine, the silicone liners with the air fryer. That is why the rule does not sit on the group but on the single reward.

The setup in the admin.

One group without a rule, three rewards with a rule of their own each. Milk jug and tamper require an espresso machine in the cart, the silicone liners an air fryer. The tamper also waits for €600 of goods. Whatever does not fit the cart is missing there entirely instead of showing up locked.

Tab "General": no rule, the group applies to everybody.

  1. Open Settings › Rule Builder and create two rules with the condition "Item in category": "With espresso machine" with the category espresso machines and "With air fryer" with the category air fryers.

  2. Open Marketing › Cart Rewards and click "Add reward group".

  3. Enter "Free accessory" as the name and leave the Rule Builder rule of the group empty.

  4. Switch to the "Rewards" tab and create the three rewards of the type "Product" with "Add reward".

  5. For the milk jug, pick the rule "With espresso machine" in the "Conditions" section and leave the minimum cart value at 0.

  6. Give the tamper the same rule and €600 as the minimum cart value, and the silicone liners the rule "With air fryer".

Tamper 58 mm

€1.20 more

At €598.80 of goods with an espresso machine in the cart. The silicone liners are missing because there is no air fryer in it.

  • Only what fits is visible

The silicone liners do not show up at all, not even locked: their rule does not match without an air fryer. The group shows two tiles instead of three.

  • Milk jug unlocked

Its threshold is 0, it only needs the espresso machine. A click on "Choose gift" puts it into the cart.

  • Tamper: €1.20 more

Espresso machine and beans add up to €598.80. €1.20 are missing until €600, as the bar and the button say.

  • Machine out, accessory out

If the customer removes the espresso machine, the rule no longer matches. The milk jug disappears with this notice, even if the cart still holds other things.

When a reward disappears again

What appears with which cart.

Five carts from Jens's shop, each with what the group "Free accessory" shows for it:

In the cart Goods value Accessory
Air fryer€129.00silicone liners unlocked
Espresso machine and two packs of espresso beans€598.80milk jug unlocked, tamper €1.20 more
plus a third pack€623.70milk jug and tamper unlocked, one of them
Espresso machine and air fryer€678.00all three unlocked, one of them
only two packs of espresso beans€49.80nothing

At €598.80, €1.20 are missing until the tamper; a third pack of beans for €24.90 unlocks it. In the default mode it stays at one accessory: the customer swaps the milk jug for the tamper or keeps it. Whoever buys an espresso machine and an air fryer together also picks one of three.

The settings for it.

One field on every reward, two plugin settings and a note on the category of the accessory.

  • Rule Builder rule (reward)

    Section ConditionsValue With espresso machine

If the rule sits on the reward, only this tile is missing when it does not match; the rest of the group stays. A rule on the group would hide the whole group. If both carry a rule, both have to match.

  • Selection mode

Technical name selectionModeValue One reward per group

Stays at the default: one accessory per order. If there should be one for every device, every device category gets its own group; then there is one from each group.

  • Automatic reward selection

Technical name autoAddValue All reached rewards

With the machine, the milk jug lands in the cart by itself. Once the goods value reaches €600, the automation swaps it for the tamper, as long as the customer has not picked or removed anything themselves.

  • Category of the accessory

    Condition Item in category

The condition checks every product item in the cart, the gift included, and counts subcategories as well. The milk jug therefore belongs in a category of its own such as "Accessories", not below "Espresso machines". If the products of a category come from a dynamic product group, the rule uses the condition "Item in dynamic product group" instead.

All settings in the manual

What matters here.

The rule only asks whether an espresso machine is in the cart, not what it costs. The tamper's threshold, on the other hand, counts the whole goods value, including the coffee next to it. And because the rule sits on the reward, the group stays the same for every customer: they only see the tiles that fit their cart.

Which of this the Shopware standard does on its own

Frequently asked questions about free accessories

How do I give a free accessory only with the right product?
With a rule on the single reward. In the Rule Builder you create a rule with the condition "Item in category", for example with the category espresso machines. In the reward's window you pick it in the "Conditions" section as "Rule Builder rule". Without an espresso machine in the cart the tile is missing.
Rule on the group or on the reward?
On the group it hides the whole group, on the reward only that one tile. If both carry a rule, both have to match. For accessories to different devices the rule on the reward fits: one group, one bar, the matching tiles per device.
Does only the device count towards the threshold?
No. The minimum cart value counts all purchased items without the rewards. At Jens's shop, espresso machine and coffee together unlock the tamper from €600.
What happens when the customer removes the device?
Then the rule no longer matches, and the accessory disappears with the next calculation of the cart, with the notice that it is no longer available. That also applies when the goods value is still above the threshold.
Does this work with a manufacturer instead of a category?
Yes. The Rule Builder has the condition "Item with manufacturer" for that, and "Items in cart" for single products. You pick the rule on the reward in the same way.
May the accessory sit in the category of the rule?
Better not. The condition checks every product item in the cart, the gift included, and counts subcategories as well. If the accessory sits in the category of the rule, it keeps the rule alive by itself when the machine is taken out again.
Can a Shopware promotion not do this as well?
A promotion from Marketing › Promotions creates a discount item and puts no product into the cart; the customer would have to find the accessory themselves. The reward shows it as a tile as soon as the machine is in the cart and adds it with one click or through the automation.
