  2. Free gifts

A free gift comes with a code or without one.

The decision comes before the setup: should the customer enter a code, or should the gift appear by itself from a cart value? Both are called free gifts, but they work quite differently. This plugin takes the second way: the gift appears by itself as soon as the cart fits.

Two ways, one word.

The difference is not the gift but the condition: a code the customer has to know, or a cart value they can see.

The cart of the test order: a purchased product, a free gift at €0.00 and a discount, both without a code.

In the cart it is a product.

Its own item, quantity 1
With an image and a product number like any product, but without a quantity field and not stackable. Nobody can collect two of the same reward.
Stock and sales move along
After the test order the gifted variant showed sales 1 and stock 49, while its sibling variant stayed at 0 and 50.
In the order without a tax rate
The item appeared at €0.00 in the order and the tax rate column stayed empty. A discount, in contrast, carried 19% and a negative amount.
The customer picks size and colour
If the reward points to a parent product, the tile carries a select box with every active and available variant. Without a choice the free gift cannot be added.

The free product in detail

And when the cart shrinks again?

Then the free gift goes with it. On every recalculation of the cart the plugin checks each reward again: is the goods value still enough, is the entry still active, does it belong to a visible group, does the rule match, is the product available? If one answer falls away, the item disappears. In the test a gift from €500 was in the cart; after reducing the quantity to a goods value of €495.95 it was gone.

A cart with nothing but gifts does not occur. If the goods value drops to zero because the last purchased item was removed, every reward goes with it.

Frequently asked questions about free gifts

Do I need a voucher code for a free gift?
No. Here the free gift hangs on the threshold and appears by itself as soon as the cart reaches it - the customer needs to know nothing and enter nothing. You only need a code if the code itself is meant to be the condition, for instance in a newsletter campaign; the Shopware Store holds its own extensions for that.
What is a free gift in Shopware 6 technically?
A real product line item at €0.00 with a fixed quantity of 1. It carries an image and a product number like any product, but its quantity cannot be changed and it cannot be collected twice. In the order it appeared at €0.00 with an empty tax column.
Does a free gift count as a sale?
Yes. After a test order in the demo shop the gifted variant showed sales 1 and stock 49, while its sibling variant stayed at 0 and 50. For inventory management it is a sale at a price of zero.
Can I offer several free gifts to choose from?
Yes. All rewards of a group sit side by side as tiles, and a setting determines how many of them the customer may keep: one per group, one per reached tier or exactly one for the whole cart.
What happens when the customer shrinks the cart again?
Then the free gift disappears. In the test a gift from €500 was in the cart; after reducing it to €495.95 it was gone. The same happens when a rule no longer matches or the plugin is switched off for the sales channel.
Is this not called something else in Shopware 6?
Yes. Shopware 6 no longer uses the word article, everything there is a product. The entry in the admin is a reward, the result in the cart a free product. The word list is on the page about reward products.
